The program, as described by creator John Feierabend, “is based on an extensive survey of research related to the development of singing and movement skills in young children, as well as many years of practical experience sharing musical activities with this young age. It is this combination of a research-based curriculum, quality literature, and practical experience that makes the First Steps in Music curriculum unique.”

Kathryn Elliott graduated from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Music Education. The daughter of an elementary music teacher and professional pianist, she continued the tradition of education as a middle and high school chorus teacher in Spotsylvania, VA for ten years. She completed her Masters of Music Education at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2017 before relocating to her home state of Tennessee. She is a proud wife and mother who enjoys spending time with her 2 year old son, Michael, and husband, Robert.
